Performa
audiovisual project | 60 min
Performa is an audiovisual project for violin, cello, and screen, combining six contemporary compositions into a visually intoned sound experience. It marks the debut album of the Twenty Fingers Duo (Lora Kmieliauskaitė and Arnas Kmieliauskas), blending sonic tension, lyricism, and subtle irony.
Each piece is accompanied by animated graphic works by Lauryna Narkevičiūtė, created specifically for the project. Using a variety of digital techniques, the visuals not only respond to musical events but also generate a sense of depth, space, and physical presence through movement. The result is an intuitive, multilayered reflection of sound – immersive, sensitive, and alive.

Violin and cello, six contemporary compositions, and one visually intoned sonic journey. What does it look like? What can be felt or sensed? How close is our imagination to what we hear, touch, and see? From absolute silence to fortissimo, from clean instrumental lines to rustling noise textures — Performa is an audiovisual project that also marks the debut album of the string duo Twenty Fingers Duo, featuring violinist Lora Kmieliauskaitė and cellist Arnas Kmieliauskas.
Performa is held together by contrasts — it is both sonic hypnosis and a nervous energy that disrupts lyricism with a deliberate anti-ensemble spirit. Contemporary music written specifically for violin and cello duos remains rare both in Lithuania and abroad. The six pieces composed for Performa by Lithuanian composers invite an authentic interaction with sound and the experience of liminal states. This is a deeply personal, multifaceted journey, filled with sincerity and subtle irony, into a visual soundscape.
The compositions were created by Julius Aglinskas, Arturas Bumšteinas, Dominykas Digimas, Andrius Maslekovas, Mykolas Natalevičius, and Rūta Vitkauskaitė — all composers working within contemporary performative art forms and exploring various emotional and conceptual states in their music.
