The Weather is Good if You Don’t Think Too Much
Vilnius Old Theatre | 2024
The concept for the video projections was based on the use of real locations and buildings captured through 3D scanning. Using a drone, we scanned sites in towns that once had vibrant Jewish communities before the Holocaust (Vilnius, Kaunas, Molėtai, Švenčionys, Šiauliai), creating digital 3D models that were later animated and brought to life in the performance.
We also scanned the two actors appearing in the piece and placed their digital doubles within this cloud of 3D objects. This visual world was integrated into scenic designer Karolina Klimavičiūtė’s layered tulle screens that densely filled the stage space. The projections react live to the original music by Monika Poderytė – their movement and rhythm are directly shaped in real time by audio signals from the mixing desk.
The resulting visual language hovers between the aesthetics of faded memory and a digital game world – fragmented, fragile, and unresolved.

“The Weather is Good if You Don’t Think Too Much” explores the themes of collective memory, historical trauma, and guilt in the context of the Holocaust.
Trapped in a vague space – a surreal outdoor café reminiscent of Vilnius Old Town – two young characters, history teacher Marija and soldier Julius, attempt to piece together their past. At times, their voices are taken over by dybbuks – spirits from Jewish mythology – whose fragmented confessions reveal personal and historical layers of loss, trauma, and fading memory.
The action takes place in a liminal zone between past and future, where the present has vanished, and the characters are left searching for meaning in the ruins of history.
